On 26.09.2022, a closing press conference was held in the city of Kotel on the project "Improving energy efficiency on the territory of the municipality of Kotel by renewing the street lighting system in the city of Kotel", financed under DBFP No. DBFP No. BGENERGY-2.001-0043- 010 with financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism and NFM.
According to the project, the street lighting in the city of Kotel was modernized through the rehabilitation and modernization of the external artificial lighting systems, by implementing the measures recommended in the Energy Efficiency Survey Report, reflected in the working investment project:
- Replacement of existing street lighting fixtures and consoles with new energy-efficient LED ones
- Introduction of a system for automation and management of energy consumption.
- Use of RES.
Achieved results:
- A complete replacement of all lighting fixtures with modern LED ones, with reduced electrical energy losses, has been implemented. Their use guarantees a very precise achievement of the set light technical characteristics with significantly less consumed electricity.
- Increased energy efficiency of street lighting, which leads to the improvement of the living conditions of the population, ensuring the safe movement of motor vehicles, increasing the security of pedestrians at night and creating a comfortable night atmosphere through:
- filling in the missing lighting fixtures, replacing existing ones with highly efficient LEDs - total number of lighting fixtures - 630 pcs.;
– new energy savings through the management and monitoring system
- implemented measures for expected energy savings - 477,791 MWh/year.
- implemented measures for the expected reduction of greenhouse gases in the municipality - 563.79 tCO2/year.
- implemented measures for expected effectiveness of the energy efficiency investment related to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved - BGN 921.80/tCO2
- implemented measures for expected energy savings after system reconstruction compared to the current situation -83, 87%
- Achieving compliance of the street lighting level with the street lighting standards by purchasing equipment of the appropriate class, according to the recommendations of the survey and installing a control and monitoring system.
- Reduction of direct costs with high quality lighting:
- expected savings - BGN 86,647.62/year, as the costs related to the need for frequent replacement and repair of lighting fixtures will be eliminated;
– the electrical energy produced by RES in the total consumption of electrical energy in the reconstructed system – 10.32%.
The street lighting is switched on and off automatically, by means of electronic clocks installed in the street lighting control panel. An automated street lighting control and monitoring system has been installed.
Through the control part of the automated street lighting management and monitoring system:
- Remote control and management of street lighting by means of two-way data transfer
- Manage an unlimited number of addresses
- Remote control and management of street lighting
- Individual management of each street board
- Street lighting is controlled according to a schedule set by the operator or according to set separate single commands
- The system will not have a limit on the number of on-off cycles within one schedule per day
- Ability to create recurring schedules for a specific period of time or create separate schedules for each calendar date.
- The system has the possibility of emergency autonomous control according to perpetual calendar type commands from an autonomous clock and autonomous memory built into the controller.
- For service and maintenance needs, the system allows direct sending of commands to the individual executive devices
- The system supports monitoring and visualizes information about individual controllers (street boards).
The project "Improving the energy efficiency of the territory of Kotel municipality by renewing the street lighting system in the city of Kotel", financed under DBFP no. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism and NFM. The main goal of the project "Improving the energy efficiency of the territory of the Kotel municipality by renewing the street lighting system in the city of Kotel" is to increase the energy efficiency through technological renewal and modernization of the external artificial lighting systems, to reduce the carbon intensity and to increased security of supply.
